Pen, Pencil and Paper

Those of you that are long-time readers will know that I am a fan of the “Paper & Pencil” methods of productivity, rather than a user of digital applications or platforms. Cynthia Niklas (@journalingarts on Twitter) invited me to join in the Carnival of Pen, Pencil and Paper and I thought that I would share a little about my new Lamy Safari fountain pen.
Simply put, I love this pen. It writes very smoothly and evenly on most of the papers that I have tested. I am especially happy that the pen leaves a nice, fine line in my journal and on the el-cheapo index cards that I use for notes.
As you can see in the photo, the pen itself has 2 beveled surfaces for your thumb and forefinger which makes holding the pen in the proper position for writing effortless. I tend to “roll” my pens and pencils in my hand while I write which can make a sloppy experience with a fountain pen!
Here are some pics of how this pen writes on different papers:
The blue ink that came with the pen is pretty uniform, and does not bleed through the paper, even in the Fieldnotes book, which is the thinnest of the papers used. I have since switched to black ink, and it is just as uniform.
I will be doing some more experimenting and writing with this pen, keep an eye on my flickr pages for updates. You can order one for yourself here:
You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

Great pens, those Lamy Safaris, aren’t they? I have four of them, so you’re preaching to the converted here! Excellent post, thanks for sharing.
